Allen began his golf career as the assistant golf pro in 1977 at Coosa Country Club in Rome, GA. Allen was very fortunate to have Bert Seagraves as his head golf professional from 1979 until 1987, where he was able to learn from one of the best PGA Golf professionals in the business. Bert was an oustanding teacher of the golf swing and that has carried over into Allen's repertoire as well. Allen furthered, and continues to further, his education in golf by attending many seminars and instruction courses led by the PGA. One of his best teaching stories is when he answered a phone call from a high school freshman student ( Joe Holmes) who was to play in the State high school tournament the next day and was not hitting the ball good at all. Allen gave him a quick lesson on the phone Mr. Holmes went out the next day and won the tournament as a freshman shooting a 71. Allen was also blessed with having Caroline Peek as a junior student. Caroline finished second in the GHSA golf championship playing with the Boys team since there were no girl’s golf teams at that time. Caroline earned a full scholarship to Furman University where she finished third in the NCAA Championship. Caroline played on the European LPGA tour and the LPGA tour for a number of years.
